I HAVE "SILVER" FLATWARE CAN I TELL IF ITS REAL SILVER. IT HAS NOBILITY PLATE THEN 4 CROWNS ON THE BACK?

found a set of "silver" flatware it has Nobility plate and four crowns on the back how can i tell if it is "real" silver and not plated

      Your set is Silver Plated not Sterling Silver and made depending on the pattern in the 1930’s unless it is a repoduction. Look under ebay for Nobility Plate and you will see some to compare with. It will still tarnish but a silver cloth and elbow grease will clean it up real good. I think but I am not sure that the 4 crowns represent the layers of silver plating and Nobility Plate was eventually a part of Onieda Silver.

      From my experience real silver will tarnish to almost black. If it’s been put away for a few months and it still shines nicely it may not be real silver.
